office printer toner cleanup commercial cleaning & restoration SERVPRO of Bartow County is here 24/7 to help your business recover from any size disaster.

During the course of an average office day, there are many tasks that must take place to keep the office running. Ordering supplies, taking out the trash, cleaning the breakroom coffee pot, and changing the toner cartridge in the printer are just a few of the day to day tasks that help your business get work done. In this blog we are going to focus on the last task mentioned, changing the toner cartridge in the office printer. After all, who hasn't experienced some kind of issue or frustration with the office printer?

If you're lucky this will never happen to you or your place of business but accidents happen, and printer toner spills can be quite the mess to clean up. If you don't know what you are doing you can end up making a bigger mess and causing more harm than good. SERVPRO of Bartow County is here to help Bartow County residents and business owners cleanup and restore just about any type of mess they find themselves in...no job is too big or too small. SERVPRO has a specific protocol for cleaning up printer toner accidents. They have been tested and proven to be highly successful in cleaning and restoring our customer’s property to preloss condition.

This type of cleanup and restoration project requires specific personal protective equipment (PPE) and extensive knowledge and experience working the professional grade cleaning products and tools utilized in the process. You should never put yourself or your property in harm's way by taking on a cleanup or restoration project, unless you are properly trained and experienced in handling the materials you are cleaning up and the tools required to complete the job.

Required PPE: Goggles; Rubber Gloves; Respirator or Dust Mask

Professional Cleaning Products: SERVPRO Solvent Spotter

Required Equipment:

Vacuum with a HEPA Filter (Truck mounted vacuum system is the best option. A backpack vacuum will work but is efficient); Dry Clean Soot Sponge(s)

SERVPRO Cleaning Protocol for Toner Spill

Non-Porous Surfaces

  • Wipe off the non-porous surfaces with a dry clean soot sponge. Use the same wiping technique as you would if you were cleaning soot. These sponges are specially formulated to absorb very small particle sized debris like soot or smoke residue, but will also absorb toner dust.
  • The remaining residue may be wiped away using a clean disposable towel dampened with one of SERVPRO’s proprietary cleaning products like SERVPRO Solvent Spotter.

Porous Surfaces

DO NOT get the area wet!

  • Vacuum the area thoroughly to remove as much material as possible.
    • Use the hose cuff in an up and down fashion. Working in small areas at a time.
    • You may need to beat the surface with a small handle to get the dust to the top of the surface.
    • DO NOT work the vacuum back and forth across the area. This can push the dust further into the surface creating a more difficult cleanup.
  • The remaining residue may be wiped away using a clean disposable towel dampened with one of SERVPRO’s proprietary cleaning products like SERVPRO Solvent Spotter.
    • DO NOT wipe it into the surface or it will be harder to remove.
  • Repeat as needed until surface is cleaned.
  • After cleaning is complete use a hot water extract tool to give the area a final cleaning.
